Not much to report for November and December as we all go through the Parked Motorcycle blues. For those who have the time and greenbacks to head south for a ride, we send our jealousy along for the ride.

The next big event for us is the Calgary Motorcycle Show Jan 6 – 8, 2012

Take the time to view the vintage bikes on display from the Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Section of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group. We are proud to be an integral part of the Calgary Motorcycle Show.

Some of these bikes have been restored and built from the greasy parts that the owners found at the Millarville Motorcycle parts Swap Meet. The R.M.S. promotes the Swap Meet which will be the TENTH ANNUAL on Sept 9, 2012.

As always, you can count on a great selection of local Vintage Iron to keep your heart pounding till spring. The R.M.S. will be looking for new members while at the show. Only 35.00 to join for the year.

If you haven’t been to bike night this year, you have missed a lot. We have had a full selection of vintage, new, street fighters, sport bikes and touring at our bike nights this year. Always something that catches your eyes.

Like this almost new out of the box 1985 1000 C.C. Honda Intercepter that graced the lot for us to view. It had 800 KM (500 Mi) on it when the new owner convinced someone to part with it.

SWAP MEET UPDATE

We had a beautiful day on Saturday Sept 11, 2011 to have our Ninth annual Millarville Swap Meet. Temps were in the 25C or so range with lots of sun.

Over 600 people went through the gates to view the 58 vendors on site. 36 motorcycles were on view for sale and many found new owners. From dirt bikes, retro, vintage and cruiser. It was all there. An impressive amount of British, European, and American parts and bikes could be found there. Some of the shops had tables there, including Cycle Works Victory, Yale Customs, The Old Bike Shop, Power Sport Seats and more.

The NINTH annual Millarville Motorcycle Swap Meet will be held on Sept. 11, 2011.

This is an indoor event, that is rain or shine.

This event is sponsored by the Calgary division of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group – Rocky Mountain Section.(C.V.M.G-R.M.S.)

If you have never answered the call to attend, you are missing out on a local motorcycle cultural event. Just $3.00 to get in the door and no cost to view one of the best impromptu motorcycle shows in the parking lot. Of course, it changes constantly throughout the day.

Bike Nights for July and August

The weather is on the upswing and allowing us to get out and ride. Bring out your new and or vintage bikes to The Calgary Thursday Bike Night at the A&W on 16 Ave. (#1 Hwy) and 4 St. N.W. We are there every Thursday from about 6 to 9 P.M.

If you are in town for the Stampede and like motorcycles, then stop by and see us. You can be a sidewalk commando without your bike if you have left it at home.

July 7, British Bikes, new or old bring them out. More than 75 bikes made it out with a nice representation of vintage Triumphs and other makes.

July 14, Kawasaki Night

We had a nice selection of Kawasaki’s arrive at Bike Night

Many other Old Iron riders as well as new bikes made for a nice July evening.

The Blast may not be Vintage by year, but certainly is now collectable.

We even do a little bit of parking lot testing.

Saturday July 16: Vintage Sports Car Club of Calgary hosts the European Classic Car Meet at Stanley Park. All European cars are welcome, but 2011 celebrates 50 years of the Jaguar E-Type. Also welcome are all makes and models of motorcycles, as the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group-Rocky Mountain Section sets up a display. Vehicle registration is $15. Participants are encouraged to dress in attire of the era in which their vehicle was built. Part of the registration proceeds go to the Food Bank, and spectators are welcome to bring a food or cash donation. Info and registration online at www.vsccc.ca.

The Old Iron Street Ride June 25, 2011

This year seams to be one of those riding seasons that you have to take advantage of any window to ride between the rain and storms. Saturday was one of those days with somewhat cooler than normal temperatures but livable.

We started out with a dozen or so bikes that rode to Cochrane and grew along the way. A nice selection of Old Iron and dress to make it quite an enjoyable day.
